And why I built Fearless Fostering to give it to you.

When I got the call for our first placement, I wanted to feel ready.
I had taken the classes. I had read the books. I had organized the bedroom.
But when that little one crossed our threshold for the first time…
I realized how much I wasn’t prepared for.

Not because I didn’t care.
But because foster care is not just logistics.
It’s a thousand emotions at once — grief, love, guilt, hope, anger, fear — and no roadmap for how to hold it all.

I created Fearless Fostering because I never want another mama to feel as alone, confused, and emotionally overwhelmed as I did back then.

Today, I want to tell you exactly what I needed during my first placement — and why Fearless Fostering exists to give you what I didn’t have.

Enrollment closes tonight at midnight, and the program begins tomorrow, July 1st. If your heart’s been whispering “yes,” I hope this post helps you say it out loud.

1. I Needed a Safe Space to Say “I’m Not Okay”

The very first night, after everyone was asleep and the house was quiet, I sat in the hallway and cried.

I wasn’t sad about fostering. I wasn’t even scared.
I was just… overwhelmed.
By the weight of it. The responsibility. The unknown.
And I didn’t know where to put those feelings.

No one talks about the emotional whiplash that comes with foster care.
How you can feel deep love and deep grief in the same breath.
How you can want to help and still feel totally helpless.

What I needed was a place where I could be honest.
Not performative. Not “strong.” Just real.

That’s what Fearless Fostering is:
🧡 A community that gets it.
🧡 A space to feel seen, held, and supported.
🧡 A place to say, “This is hard,” and not be met with judgment or toxic positivity — but with compassion and tools.

2. I Needed Trauma-Informed Tools That Didn’t Feel Like Homework

I had all the handouts.
I had a shelf full of books.
But when the big behaviors started showing up — the ones you can’t plan for — I felt frozen.

What do I actually say when a child looks at me with pain in their eyes and says,

“You’re not my real mom.”
Or when the caseworker calls again and says the plan has changed.
Or when my nervous system is in complete overdrive but I’m trying to be the calm one.

I needed simple, grounded, ready-to-use tools — not just concepts.

In Fearless Fostering, that’s exactly what you get.
Printable scripts. Grounding strategies. Trauma-informed routines.
We give you the words for the hard moments — and the space to breathe through them.

3. I Needed Support That Didn’t End After That First Visit

That first week, I had a couple check-ins.
People meant well.
But then the dust settled — and I was left to carry it all alone.

And the truth is: foster care isn’t hard just in the first 72 hours.
It’s hard when the system breaks your heart.
It’s hard when visits trigger your child for days.
It’s hard when reunification is complicated, and adoption feels complicated too.

I didn’t need a one-time pep talk.
I needed ongoing, steady, wraparound support.

In Fearless Fostering, that’s what we do.
💬 You get access to a private community that’s active all month long.
📅 You get 2 live group Zoom calls every month where you can ask anything, share openly, or just sit quietly and receive.
🧠 You get access to every trauma-informed product and resource I’ve created — plus everything new I make — included.

4. I Needed Permission to Care for Myself

I thought good foster moms didn’t break down.
I thought good foster moms said yes to every call, every child, every need.

But the truth is, I was running on fumes — and I believed that made me weak.

Now I know:
✨ Caring for myself doesn’t make me selfish.
✨ Regulating my own nervous system is part of parenting well.
✨ Asking for help is not failure — it’s wisdom.

In Fearless Fostering, I teach you how to care for yourself without guilt.
We normalize the need for rest, regulation, and boundaries.
Because you can’t pour from an empty cup — and you shouldn’t be expected to.

5. I Needed Someone Who Had Lived It, Too

The trainings were helpful, but I often felt like I was being taught by people who weren’t in it the way I was.

I wanted someone who could say,

“Yes, I’ve sat in the waiting room for hours.”
“Yes, I’ve worried about saying the wrong thing during visits.”
“Yes, I’ve cried after a goodbye that came too soon.”
“Yes, I love my kids more than anything — and I still need support.”

That’s why I lead Fearless Fostering as both a licensed therapist and a community of foster/adoptive moms.

I’m in it with you.
I’ve been there.
And I’ve built the exact space I needed back then — for you, right now.

But What If You’re Not Sure?

Let’s be honest — foster moms are used to being strong.
You’re used to powering through, figuring it out, putting everyone else first.

So when someone says, “Join this support group,” your brain might respond with:

❓ “I don’t have time.”

I get it — your schedule is full and your brain is overloaded.

That’s why Fearless Fostering is designed for real foster moms with real lives.
✔️ You don’t have to show up live every time.
✔️ You don’t have to do “homework.”
✔️ You can listen, learn, and connect on your terms.

You can join a Zoom call while folding laundry if that’s what would serve you most.

And the beauty of the Marco Polo group chat is that you can use it 24/7, as often or as little as you’d like.
This isn’t something that drains you — it’s something that refills you.

❓ “I should be able to handle this on my own.”

That belief right there? That’s the voice of burnout talking.

Let me be clear: asking for support is not weakness.
It’s wisdom.
It’s how we model co-regulation, boundaries, and healing for our kids.

You’re not failing by needing help. You’re failing if you believe you shouldn’t.

❓ “What if I’m not sure I can commit?”

You don’t have to commit to being your best self every day.
You just have to commit to not doing this alone anymore.

That’s it.
One small yes.
And tomorrow — July 1st — you’ll step into the most supported season of your foster care journey yet.

❓ “I can’t afford it.”

I hear you. And I want to be honest with you.

I know what it’s like to think, “This is probably amazing… but I just can’t swing it right now.”
But here’s the truth: the cost of doing this without support is far higher.

Burnout. Compassion fatigue. Emotional shutdown. Secondary trauma.
These are real — and they take a toll on your family, your health, and your ability to stay in this for the long haul.

Fearless Fostering is $4,400 for 6 months of trauma-informed coaching, tools, community, and personal support PLUS a luxury weekend retreat October 3rd -5th.  So that price includes your roundtrip airfare and 2 nights single accomodation in an amazing hotel and a group activity. OR, if you’re busy that weekend or the retreat makes it cost prohibitive for you, there is an option to join for $2450 that includes everything but the retreat.  PLUS, there are payment plans available that you can pay for up to 24 months to make the monthly cost as doable as possible.  So that’s $183 per month if you did the retreat or $102 per month if you didn’t.  That’s way less that the cost of a therapy session per month and it includes WAY WAY more.

If you’re even considering it, it’s worth asking:

What’s the cost of staying stuck, unsupported, and emotionally alone?

If you’re ready, I’ll meet you there — with tools, compassion, and zero judgment.

If you still have questions or you just want to make sure Fearless Fostering is the right fit for you, click here to hop on a 15 minute Zoom call with me today.  I want to make sure you feel great about this group before you dive in!
