15 Health And Fitness Goals That Have Nothing To Do With Your Weight

02

Self-care is about caring for your mind, body, and soul.  It’s about cultivating healthy relationships and having FUN.  Because I love chips and chocolate I’m a psychotherapist, it’s definitely easier for me to focus on the mind, soul, relationships and fun on this here blog.  But I also have a fear that whenever I write about taking care of our bodies, it will come across as an encouragement to diet or lose weight.  Which is pretty much the opposite of what I would want to encourage people to do because a) I’m not a doctor and b) I’m not a nutritionist and c) I really like chips and chocolate I don’t know what your exact health needs are.
Now that we have that out of the way, I thought I would share some healthy health and fitness goals that can be applicable for everyone, everywhere.  The list of health and fitness goals I’m sharing is meant to help you think about what tweaks you could make in your life to benefit your body and mind.  And relationships.  All of the above!  #winning

Take a look at the list and think about one or two that you would like to begin.  It doesn’t have to be the new year to start thinking about treating yourself right.  Self-care isn’t all bubble baths and manicures (although who doesn’t love them, right?!).  It’s also making wise choices about what we fuel our bodies with, how we spend our time, and what we allow to take up space in our minds.
1.  Make time for regular self-care.  ‘Nuff said. 😉
2.  Say NO to things you hate.  It’s all about setting boundaries and doing what’s best for YOU.  That’s not selfish, it’s wisdom.
3.  Set aside one day per week as a no phone or no social media day.  It’s so hard to achieve deep connection with our loved ones when we are constantly connected to everyone else.
4.  Add one more fruit or veggie snack to your day each day.  Simple health goals like this (not huge crazy diet overhauls) are the smart way to get healthy and fit!
5.  Finally make an appointment with a therapist already!  I mean, seriously, Besties!  I offer a 30-day money back guarantee on my monthly check-ins via FaceTime, Skype, or phone.  Which means you literally have nothing to lose.  Email me today for more info!
6.  EXERCISE.  It doesn’t have to be for x amount of time or for x days per week.  It just has to be a commitment to moving your body on a consistent basis.  Do what you can.  No guilt allowed.

7.  Start Your Day With Healthy Foods.  When you start your day with healthy choices, you are much more likely to continue them throughout the day.  And even if the rest of your day looks less than healthy, you’ll still feel good about your first meal of the day.
8.  Stop obsessing about your weight.  The pressure to look a certain way is real, I get it.  But weighing yourself every day, becoming a slave to your scale and beating yourself up when the number isn’t what you want to see is the opposite of self-care.  If you find yourself struggling with intrusive thoughts about your body image or weight, it’s time to get some help.  Talk to someone you trust and be honest about what you’ve been dealing with.  You can love your body even if you don’t love what the mirror is showing you today.
9.  Try a new form of exercise.  I promise there is a form of exercise out there that you won’t hate.  I promise there is one you will actually enjoy and look forward to.  I love spin class and taking walks.  You might love biking or hiking or yoga or jumping rope.  Just do you.  But keep searching until you find your exercise jam.  Your body and mind will thank you.
10.  Practice gratitude daily.  I made this handy dandy printable so you can make it easy to do a 5-minute gratitude practice each and every day.  You can thank me later 😉
11. Practice self love daily.  Don’t know how to do that?  Oh, wait, I made you a printable for that too!  Seriously, no need to thank me. 😉
12.  Improve your sleep hygiene.  Getting enough rest is literally the best thing you can do for your body.  Every part of you needs adequate sleep.  Do what you have to do to get that sleep, friends!
13.  Create a coping skills list.  Wait, does that sound overwhelming?  K, fine, I made you one of those too!
14.  Read books that make you better.  I love reading…and reading of any kind is definitely good for you.  But once in a while, why not throw a self-care or self-help book in the mix?  There are a bajillion out there, of course, but I’m just a bit partial to this one.

15.  Shower the people you love with love.  If you love someone, tell them.  Speak their love language.  Spend quality time together.  Schedule your priorities, rather than prioritizing your schedule.  You’ll never regret it.
So tell us…which health goal are you encouraged to make for yourself this spring?  Do you have any other health and fitness goals you would add to the list?
